Opportunities
Open PhD projects
The Molnar lab opens two exciting PhD projects for 2024!
- Are you interested in epigenetics and want to know what influences CRISPR/Cas9 activity in algae? Join the lab for a PhD project to investigate the interplay between epigenetic modifications and gene editing in algae, under the supervision of Dr. Attila Molnar.

- Do you want to know more about the mechanisms behind virus-induced RNA-directed DNA methylation (RdDM) and plant breeding for the generation of stable epialleles? Join the lab for this EASTBIO founded PhD project to harness virus-induced gene silencing for epigenetics-mediated crop breeding (epibreeding), under the supervision of Dr. Attila Molnar and Dr. Annis Richardson (http://www.theplantshapelab.org/)

Postdoctoral fellowships
The School offers assistance with obtaining fellowship funding or guidance for potential self-funded candidates. Information on funding sources and how to make an application can be found here. I am happy to discuss sponsorship for fellowship applications to join the lab.
PhD projects
The School awards a number of research council-funded studentships available for both UK/EU and international students. These studentships cover the costs of fees and living expenses and are awarded competitively. Applications generally open between Oct - Dec. Advertised PhD positions can be found here.
General information about postgraduate study and submitting applications can be found at:
- Information for prospective postgraduate students at the School of Biological Sciences

Visiting researchers
We welcome applications from colleagues at any stage of their career (undergraduate placements, visiting Masters, PhD and postdoctoral researchers). More information for short-term visiting research students can be found here.
Summer studentship
We can provide short-term projects for undergraduates who are interested in gaining research experience during the summer vacation.
Please contact Attila Molnar to discuss current opportunities and request further information on available/potential projects.
